“A History of Malpractice” by Clarice Montgomery

I love a good haunted house (or in this case, haunted doctor’s office with a flat above) story, and A History of Malpractice started promising enough with the first few ghostly happenings and a refreshingly proactive protagonist who actually believes in the haunting and tries to figure out what to do. However it then fell a bit flat on the spooky front and suddenly I found myself more than half way through the book with much less spookiness and much more relationship drama instead.

There is still the big mystery that keeps the story flowing at a suitably fast pace, and a couple of smaller, more predictable storylines that entertain, too, but overall I would have liked to have been surprised by the developments a bit more and I also thought some of the characters were just a bit too helpful to be realistic, but if you are looking for a fun and quick read with a bit of a haunting to it then this will do very nicely.
