When Mary reluctantly returns home she was expecting her antagonistic uncles, grudge bearing neighbors, and the ghosts in her home. What she didn’t expect was human remains turning up, potentially implicating her family.
Urso crafts a story where everyone has it in for the protagonist, to the point where you can’t even trust the few people who don’t seem to be up in arms against her. Doom could come from any direction at any moment, grusome scenes unfold on the regular and the whole time you just know there is more to come. Tense and suspenseful, the backstory unrevels at just the right speed for the reader to feel like s/he’s solving the mystery together with Mary.
It’s hard to believe that this is a debut, I can’t wait to see what she writes next.
