Sisters Dido, Chloe, and Zoe have a difficult relationship due to a traumatic past back when they were children. When first one and then another sister disappear, Dido must find out who is after them (and why) before she’s next.
Starting off as a thriller with with a fairytale theme, fairytale turns into folklore as thriller turns into horror. While Fitcher’s Bird has a good mystery at its bones and boasts an intruiging ending, I can’t help feeling that it was just a bit too short for its own good.
Dido’s investigation into her sisters’ disappearances takes barely any effort at all, wherever she looks, she finds something to advance her search. At no point does she come across as anything other than calculating and competent, but that means you are never really worried about her.
The fairytale interludes confused me at first, and I’ve not heard of the tale of the Fitcher Bird before, so the ending was quite unexpected.
