“This is not a test” is a bleak and hopeless zombie apocalypse story.
For a large part of the story, the characters are doing the usual Zombie Story thing of hiding out and the action gets a little sidelined while the main focus is on everyone arguing and unintentionally sabotaging themselves and each other.
I much preferred the follow up novella “Please remain calm”, which is included in this edition of the book. Here, our protagonists are constantly on the run, which makes it feel like their backstory flows more as it’s being glimpsed through the action and short moments of rest.
I am looking forward to seeing how the Movie adaptation plays out.
