Based on the description, I expected an unconventional zombie story (The synopsis did say our main character literally rots after being attacked by a strange woman). It wasn’t a zombie story, but there was a lot of rotting going on and I think the word “unconventional” still fits.
It was a fast-paced, gripping story that kept you guessing for most of the first half about where it was going. The only reason I needed two days to finish it was because I started the book quite late and only had an hour, otherwise I probably would have gone through it without a single break.
I only feel like the “rules” within the story became a bit blurred during the final climax, leaving me just a little confused about why things played out in a particular way.
It’s made me interested in seeking out more of Dalrymple’s horror novels.
