The Vanishers was a quick and entertaining read, however it was not quite right for me. I would not describe it as a gothic horror, so went in with the wrong expectations and the genre change of the reveal of what’s going on in the house moved it even further away from horror.
I also found the protagonist does not seem to think things through, even when given ample time to do so, and some of the interpersonal relationships felt rushed.
