A wonderfully athmospheric lovecraftian novella. Weirdly enough it’s been the third ARC I’ve read recently that can be described as aquatic horror. Must be something in the water, I guess.
I love stories about how life goes on in unprecedented circumstances, so this was just right for me. I also enjoyed it more than the actual lovecraft stories, because as far as I recall, they were all just some form of “nothing makes sense and it is so weird and terrible that everyone went insane or died”, whereas A Plagued Sea has people carrying on through the madness, because what else are you supposed to do? I would love to read a longer book exploring the premise on a larger scale (no pun intended).
