“She’s a Doll” by Barbara Truelove

I’m fairly new to the “pink horror” or “weird girl horror” subgenre, having only just found out about it with Bed Rot Baby, which was a pleasant surprise, and now encountered it again with the wonderful She’s a Doll by Barbara Truelove. I am truly lucky to have been able to receive an ARC of this book.

I felt for Lu and was rooting for her to get her revenge the entire time, but I could also emphasise with Nic, for whom justice was more important, and even Ginger and Krissy, who, to different degrees, did not want to accept an uncomfortable truth.
The “Ghost Lore” was well thought out, the Porcellain Doll POV was fascinating, and I loved that it even managed to somehow do a post-credit scene in literary form (don’t skip the book club questions at the end).
I will keep my eyes open for more books of this subgenre, as well as from this author.
