“Tatratea” by Alex Woodroe

4.25 Stars

Tatratea by Alex Woodroe has the most interesting unreliable narrator I’ve ever come across, because she knows she could turn insane at any moment and regularly checks for it. Only a lot of crazy things happen to her when she is sane, how much worse can insanity possibly be?
In under 200 pages (including a short story) Woodroe crafts what surely is a loveletter to VanderMeer’s Southern Reach Trilogy while maintaining a wholly original experience for the reader. Because our protagonist, Errata, is all alone in the dilapidated manor. Or rather, she is the only human being.
Between looming insanity and creepy (creeping) plants, will she be able to complete her mission?
