“Strange Lights” by Mira González

Not a horror, but a whacky sounding book featuring creatures from the world of horror inlcuding werewolves, cryptids like the chupacabra, and … sentient Roombas?
This is just the start of the wild group of characters in this LGBT+ found family adventure with a stunning cover design. Reggie is a paranormal investigator with a lot of secrets, one of them her adopted Chupacabra toddler. Another is her sentient Winnebago and a whole menagerie of other supernatural creatures and objects that she must keep safe from a shadowy organisation.
While it was a fascinating world to explore at first, eventually it all felt a bit too convenient. Whatever was needed, her magical vehicle could do or provide. The found family theme got a bit over the top for me and at times it felt a bit YA with how much focus there was on children/teens holding together in adversity against adults (the protagonist is a grown up, but we do flash back to her younger years).
The ending was fun and engaging again though, so I am glad I picked this one up!
